Want to know what your customers want? Ask Google Analytics

If you're not already taking advantage of the multitude of benefits Google Analytics offers - hurry up! Competitors who might not have nearly as strong products or services as you are surpassing you online simply by understanding what their customers want.

Orientate yourself from a visitor's point of view

It's impossible for you arrive objectively at your site. Google Analytics lets you look at your site from a visitor's point of view. Find out:

  • Which keywords drive the most traffic
  • Which pages create conversions and which create bounces
  • Where people are coming to your site from
  • What actions they take while they are there
  • Where they enter your site
  • Where they exit your site

Test and adjust, test and adjust, test and adjust

This information gives you valuable insights into what people are actually searching for when they find your site and you can adjust your content and offers accordingly.

For example, if one of your keywords is driving healthy traffic but has a poor conversion rate, it is likely that your content either does not match the keyword or the search intent of your visitor.

This is where Google Analytics goes hand in hand with split testing. Adjust the content or offer on that page (don't change the keyword if it is working!) and see if you can capture what people are actually searching for.

Discover where your best sources of revenue come from

You can test marketing campaigns, keyword effectiveness and a range of demographic information (such as geographical locators) using Google Analytics. If you discover that one of your PPC campaigns yields particularly high results from customers in a particular area, why not start a targeted and localised campaign to capitalise on that information?

Take Google Analytics to the next level

Anyone can install Google Analytics. You may have done so already and you might be using the basic tools to measure some basic statistics.

But there are a number of installs, features, tracking capabilities and customisation options that will make this tool even more powerful.

If you would like to know more about:
