Customers want Solutions

The secret to profit

retain more customersContemporary marketing can be summed up in 5 letters:

"WIIFM" What's in it for me"

Even if you understand nothing else about marketing you will still succeed using this simple principle.

The features and benefits of a product
Marketing is all about appealing to the customer's self interest by promising a benefit. Don't focus on the product, instead focus on what the product can do for the customer. For example, will your product save the customer time, make them money, make them more beautiful and healthy, give them better fuel efficiency or a whiter wash? What will it do for them? Write a list of the features and benefits of a product.

Problems and solutions

People are consumed by problems, so offer them solutions. Appeal to their wants, desires, needs and frustrations. Take away your customer's pain and you will be rewarded. You need to build a relationship with your customer that is based on trust.

What's your strategy?

Having a sound strategy in place is essential if you want to increase your customers. It is extremely important to understand which strategy is best for your business and why. The following strategies can be used either on their own or combined, depending on the results you want to achieve.

Find your target market

The fastest way to build your business is to "choose" or "target" who you want to market to. Every market or niche market has a small number of "ideal buyers". You need to work out who is the best target market for your product or service by performing a target market analysis. Create a profile of your ideal customer. For example what age bracket would they fall into? Do they own their own home? What area do they live in?

You should focus on appealing to just a few people rather than the other way around. Your target market should be customers who are going to be valuable to you and spend more with you in the long run. Just a few of these kind of customers can be worth many times what a "non-ideal" customer is worth.
