Generating more traffic to your website is a great reason to start online publishing. This increases website visibility by increasing the number of backlinks which tells search engines you are a credible source and leader in your category. The more sources linking to your website the better. Also, articles can convey can in-depth perspective of you talents, knowledge and position of authority. Communicating with your target audience on an intellectual level let's them see another side of your brand then the usual sales pitch.
When you publish an article -let's say on your website, and provide sharing tools (see buttons below the header on this page, or watch the video below for a better explanation) the reader can click on a button informing people in their network about your content.
Once an article is bookmarked or shared it becomes accessible on more locations then just your website. However, publishing articles on your website is not the best idea if you're struggling to generate traffic. A better location is to publish your article on a trade or industry online magazine or resource site. Another option is to distribute your article on a social publishing site like Scribd or Kobo.
Distributing the articles isn't the biggest challenge to face. Figuring out what you'll write about and finding time to sit down and compose several drafts is the biggest challenge for most business owners.
Know your audience.
Who are you writing for? Be sure that you communicate effectively using language they'll understand and appreciate.
Be humble.
A common mistake many new writers make is to brag or boast. Be sure to balance all of your claims with multiple resources so you don't come off as too self-serving.
Revise, edit and edit again.
No one is perfect and no first draft is ready to be published immediately. If possible ask a friend or co-worker to read your article before it gets published.
Read a lot.
It's very important to read a lot when you're a writer. Even the most famous, well-known writers read an exurbanite number of articles and books.
Don't lie.
Embellishments are unnecessary and can be poked through quite quickly. Internet readers are savvy and can pick up dodgy claims faster than Mackers take-away.
Be original.
This is not a book report being graded by a forgiving grade school teacher. If you borrow ideas from anyone be sure to quote the source and spell their name properly.
Articles aren't the only form of digital publishing. eBooksare a short novella on any type of topic. They are great for iPad owners or most mobile devices. Many commuters read digital articles and books while travelling into the office on the train and are a great companion while waiting for just about anything. In fact, it's been claimed that creating content for mobile devices is the best way to connect with a digital audience.
